The site that will probably never come!
Update: I had grand plans for this site, I was really getting into the Atmel AVR, it is a great chip. But now I live in Thailand, and my micro-engineering days seem to be a thing of the past… Well, one day, I may just get back into it…
Welcome to a site that’s going to be primarily devoted to assembly for the AVR chipset. The greatest challenge I’ve ever had is finding great assembly resources for the AVR. There just isn’t that great amount of information out there. The majority of assembly for the micro-controller is related to the PIC micro-controller. I have nothing against the PIC, I just don’t know it. Having spent a few dollars on AVR paraphernalia over the years, I’m just not about to change.
Publications for the AVR are slim and when it comes to assembly, they are even slimmer. There are some great forums and web sites out there, but again they cater mostly to the PIC micro-controller, or (if they are AVR specific) touch on AVR assembly but lean primarily towards C. Again, I don’t have anything against C, it’s just that I really do like the down to earth roots of assembler.
My aim is to start with the absolute basics and move through some more complicated stuff as I progress towards some of my own goals. Each project will form a basis for learning a key component and eventual inclusion to a larger picture.
At this present time, my goal is to create some basic clocks and timers, but to also dabble in home automation. I’m not too concerned about a controller at this point, I just want to make the actual controlling devices. In this case, they are going to be lamp and appliance Modules. ie, lamp modules allow for regulation of power to the end device (perfect for lighting and fans), and appliance modules simply turn on and off. Anyway, I’m diverging and that’s still a ways down the track.
